Featured Cove – Soap Creek
Soap Creek is a large cove located five miles up the west end of the Gravois arm. The creek got its name from a wagon accident that happened long before the lake was filled. This accident left a large amount of soap in the creek that would leave suds in the water whenever it rained. Since then the creek has been submerged by the creation of the lake and is now home to some giant LOZ bass! Bassing Bob Expert Advisor Wayne Fitzpatrick likes to fish this cove year round, and has several tips for each season.

Fishing Tips by Season
Summer- In the Summertime Wayne will stick to the secondary and main lake points in the cove.  There are several points coming out of the bigger pockets in the cove that will hold fish all summer. The main lake point on the north side of the creek will be good if there is wind crashing into it. He will look for deep rock and brush piles on these points and fish them with a 10” worm and a 1oz Jig.

Fall- In the fall loads of shad will migrate to the backs of the creek and the bass will follow. Wayne recommends throwing a square-bill crankbait and a rattletrap on the flats in the back of the creek. Flipping a jig under the docks in the backs of pockets can also be good in the fall.

Winter- In the winter Wayne likes to fish the 45° channel banks outside of the pockets on the north side of the creek. He will work a jerkbait and an Alabama rig slowly along these banks. Wayne also notes that brush piles on these banks are going to hold the biggest fish.

Spring- In the spring Wayne will start on the 45° banks and then switch to the pea gravel transition banks leading into the pockets as water temps warm up. His bait of choice for this will be a Carolina-Rigged Lizard. He will also flip behind the docks in these pockets with a beaver style creature bait.
